Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing recently announced that MICE events in Singapore can accommodate up to 250 participants. While this is finally the news that we all have been waiting for, this also has caused confusion over the strategic directions of performers. Upon the announcement, many performers started abandoning their virtual shows. Here I list 3 reasons why performers like you and I should continue to work on our virtual shows.

Inertia

Companies have just started reaping the benefits of going virtual and enjoyed the cost savings from organizing virtual events. It is justifiable to say that there is inertia to actually go back to the old normal of having physical events now. So local physical events may not come back fast.

Singapore Only

Singapore is one of the few countries in the region to experience low or no community transmission. The countries around Singapore are still experiencing daily rises of community cases. MICE events involve business personnel around the region and it is difficult for them to travel to Singapore to attend events as green lanes have not been fully established regionally. International events may take a much longer time to go back.

Vaccine Trial Paused

Oxford University vaccine trial paused after participant falls ill, as reported yesterday. This is a great reality check on the overly optimistic outlook that the media set previously. It is not too pessimistic to bear in mind that vaccines may never materalize.
